Hermann Bacher Deutsch was a journalist with the New Orleans Item for over four decades. He also wrote for the Saturday Evening Post, Cosmopolitan, Esquire, Collier's, the Literary Digest, and several books. The Incredible Yanqui (1931), about General Christmas, The Wedge (1935), concerning the revolution in Mexico, are only a couple.

Deutsch also wrote, in collaboration with Isidore Cohn, the Biography of Dr. Rudolph Matas and The Huey Long Murder Case written with the permision of Russel Long (son of H.L.) 1963. Books were also written about the state of Louisiana, with close attention to New Orleans and her cuisine. The Kingdom of the Kingfish (1939), Brennan's New Orleans Cookbook (1964), and The Jungle Islands of Avery Island (n.d).

Eberhard Deutsch donated the papers of Hermann B. Deutsch to the Tulane University Manuscripts Department in 1993.


Other Sources:

The papers of Frances Parkinson Keyes (842) contain some business correspondence with Hermann Deutsch, 1944-68.
