Volunteer Committee of the New Orleans Symphony

Manuscripts Collection 946
1946 – present
15 linear feet
(2 records boxes and 47 volumes)

Scrapbooks, minute books, financial records, and other documents of the Volunteer Committee of the New Orleans Symphony. The organization was formerly called the Women’s Committee and it continues today as a support group for the Louisiana Philharmonic under the name "Symphony Volunteers, Inc."

Over 60 musicians of the former New Orleans Symphony, which ceased operations after 55 years, founded the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO) in September 1991. The LPO’s support group, Symphony Volunteers, Inc. has a fifty-nine year history of immensely successful and popular fund raising activities including the annual Symphony Book Fair, Encore at the Orpheum, Encore Shop, recitals, and the annual Soiree.

This collection details the activities of the support group through minutes, programs, and scrapbooks, and other documents.
