These custom clothing measurements are glued to the back
of a 1914 Mistick Krewe of Comus costume design. Each costume was custom
fitted.
A person's measurements were first recorded on a form
which included a guide to taking a proper measurement. For example, the
"breast measure" was No. 7, so one could look on the chart of
the Edwardian gentleman with a Bowler hat, find No. 7, and see where to
take the measurement correctly.
The designer would refer to the measurements when making
his or her drawings. Once the drawing were completed, the measurements
were cut out and glued to the back of the drawing to ensure the right
measurement went with the right design.
This image is about 80% of the size of the actual
costume design. |
