The SSA has three scholarships to help persons attend our annual meeting.

 

 

A founder and the first president of the Society of Southwest Archivists, A. Otis Hebert (1930-1976) was an historian, educator, and archivist who, among his many other achievements, served as Director of the Louisiana Department of Archives and Records from 1966 to 1974.

A. Otis Hebert Continuing Education Scholarship
In honor of SSA's founding president, this scholarship is intended to further the professional training of working archivists in the Southwest. The John Michael Caldwell Student Scholarship was established in 1998 in memory of a former officer and board member of SSA, former archivist at the Carl Albert Center at the University of Oklahoma, and former professor in the Department of Social Sciences at Louisiana Tech University.

John Michael Caldwell Student Scholarship
Presented annually, this scholarship helps an SSA member enrolled in a graduate archival education program attend the SSA Annual Meeting. It covers travel, registration, and per diem up to $350 in expenses. To be eligible you must be an SSA member enrolled in a library, archives, or public history program within the society's region. To apply, send:

  • your contact information,

  • contact information for a faculty member in your program who can serve as a reference,

  • and a 250-word essay explaining how attending the meeting will aid your education and archival career

SSA Annual Meeting Scholarship
Presented annually, this scholarship provides financial aid to a working archivist with limited funding to attend the SSA Annual Meeting. The recipient will receive registration and reimbursed travel and per diem expenses up to a total of $500 for attending SSA's 2003 annual meeting in New Orleans.

Applicants must be members of the Society of Southwest Archivists and demonstrate a need for assistance. To apply, send a letter explaining why you wish to attend, why you need outside funding, and describing your long-term professional archival goals by January 17, 2003, to:
