Will you
arrive by train?
As one of the most
popular destinations in the US, New Orleans
is served by three Amtrak trains:
-
The
City of New Orleans follows the old Illinois
Central route from Chicago, through Memphis, to New Orleans.
The New Orleans suburb of Harahan was named after James Theodore
Harahan, president of the Illinois Central at the turn of the century.
- The Crescent travels
from New
York, through Philadelphia and Atlanta, to New Orleans.
-
The
famous Sunset Limited, the train the
stars took between Hollywood and Miami (or, perhaps more accurately,
between Santa Anita and Hialeah), now travels from Orlando,
through New Orleans, Houston, San Antonio, El Paso, and Tucson, to Los
Angeles.

Road trip!
Perhaps not all
roads lead to New Orleans, but the city is served by Interstate-55 from
the North and Interstate-10 from the East and West. Interstates 12, 20,
and 49 feed into I-55 and I-10. Click here for a map of Louisiana's national highway
system. But, at long as you're driving, why not see some of the real
Louisiana by following one or two of Louisiana's scenic byways?
to order a Louisiana Tour Guide and Official Louisiana Highway Map.
download a digital (pdf) copy of the Louisiana Highway Map.
Once in town,
follow these directions to the hotel:
- From the West: Take I-10 east
to the Mississippi River Bridge. Take the Westbank Exit right just
before crossing bridge at Tchoupitoulas/South Peters, take left, go 8
blocks to Julia St.
- From East: Take I-10 west to
Downtown New Orleans and follow signs as above. Get turn by turn directions here.

Why not
come to New Orleans by steamboat?
Believe it or not, New Orleans
still has river passenger connections with Galveston, Memphis, St. Louis,
Nashville, St. Paul, Chattanooga, Louisville, Pittsburgh, and Cincinnati.
Almost all of these are through the Delta Queen Steamboat Company. Arrival and departure
dates are very limited.
