Delavigne family papers, 1778-1946 | Louisiana Research Collection

Scope and Contents: The collection consists primarily of correspondence from Louis Delavigne and his sister, Elizabeth Delavigne Aupoix, in France, to their brother César Casimir Delavigne in Louisiana. The letters primarily concern family matters, including the careers of Louis Delavigne's sons Casimir, a dramatist, and Germain, an author of opera books, as well as the education of Alphonse, the son of César Casimir Delavigne. Epidemics effecting the New Orleans area and events of the French Revolution of 1830 are also discussed. The collection also includes genealogical materials on the Delavigne, Haydel, Jourdon, and Deslondes families as well as two manuscript volumes by Jean Casimir Delavigne (1806-1888) entitled Tales of Louisiana. All correspondence is in French.
