Scope and Contents of the Materials

The collection includes materials for a course on American civilization, articles, book budgets, class notes, correspondence, jazz notes, pamphlets, periodicals, possible Kmen manuscripts, and tests. Henry Arnold Kmen was a member of Tulane University's history faculty and introduced the Black Studies Program at Tulane in the 1960s.

Biographical Note

Henry Arnold Kmen was a member of Tulane University's history faculty and introduced the Black Studies Program at Tulane in the 1960s. He contributed to a number of professional journals and was the author of Music in New Orleans: The Formative Years, 1791-1841.
