Scope and Contents of the Materials

This collection consists of a book, published in 1972, entitled Baynard: An Ancient Family Bearing Arms. It is a compilation of information on the Baynard family from its time in England during the reign of William the Conqueror to present-day America. Written by Annie Baynard Simons Hasell, the book is accompanied by photocopies of pages from the book, which have the author's additions and corrections, written in 1984, that she hoped would be included in a new edition. Also included in the collection are military buttons and badges from Louisiana as well as a postcard book.

Biographical Note

The Baynard family originated from England and settled in American during the early eighteenth century in Maryland, Delaware, and South Carolina. Annie Baynard Simons Hasell wrote a book, Baynard: An Ancient Family Bearing Arms, tracing the family from its time in England during the reign of William the Conqueror to present-day America in 1972.
