Family estates papers, 1534-1898

This section is arranged in chronological order in thirteen boxes. This group is composed of legal documents, correspondence, and bills and receipts concerning immovable property owned by the de la Villesbrets or allied families. The legal documents are chiefly land titles, certificates of purchase or sale, and leases.

Family papers and school notebooks, 1562-1912

The family papers section is arranged in chronological order in eight boxes. This category contains documents and correspondence concerning the family itself. Included are royal commissions, proofs of nobility, wills, marriage and baptismal certificates, death notices, wedding announcements, naturalization papers, petitions for pensions, etc.

Military papers, 1704-1961

The military papers section is made up of three boxes and is divided according to person and include commissions, citations, orders, records of service, diaries, and correspondence pertaining to the military services of members of the family in the French Army and Navy.

Genealogical papers consists of one box and is arranged by family and includes genealogical notes and charts.

The collection is made up of 28 boxes and 2 oversized folders.

The materials in the collection pertain to the Garnier de la Villesbret family and allied families, including, among others, the Cormier du Médic, Gourel de St. Pern, Le Gris du Clos, Genu de la Bordière, de Mezerac, de Blois de la Calande, Boudin de Longpré, de la Moussaye, Kerbusso, and O'Brien families.

Biographical Note

The de la Villesbret family is related to several other families, including the Cormier du Médic, Gourel de St. Pern, Le Gris du Clos, Genu do la Bordière, de Mezerac, de Blois de la Calande, Boudin de Longpré, de la Moussaye, Kerbusso, and O'Brien families. Members of the family were landowners and active in the French Army and Navy before and after the French Revolution.
