Scope and Contents of the Materials

The John V. Veazie papers consists of letters to John Veazie from his brother Henry Augustus Veazie of New Orleans and from a sweetheart Vivian M. ("Bebe") Herrington of Biloxi. These letters generally deal with personal matters, but also describe at length entertainment enjoyed, including dances, movies, horse races, baseball games, vaudeville, and pool. There are several letters that concern Veazie's application to play baseball with various clubs, and letters from his brother and sweetheart often mention his activities in the game. Also included are address books.

Biographical Note

John Veazie played professional baseball with teams from Crowley, Abbeville, Laurel, Meridian, Lafayette, and Rome, Georgia. His brother's name is Henry Augustus Veazie of New Orleans.
