Scope and Contents of the Materials

The collection consists of transcripts of early French baptismal records of the Fortier-Brou-Haydel-Labranche families; the papers of Michel J. Fortier concerned principally with political aspects of New Orleans in the 1870s and 1880s; newspaper clippings giving accounts of the murder of Michel J. Fortier in 1883; pictures, including three of concession plantation buildings; genealogical papers and notes with many notes on Valcour Aime. There are also papers concerned with Fortier's job at the Louisiana State Museum; correspondence; papers on the Sam Jones gubernatorial campaign; Haydee M. Fortier papers; Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy, and the Daughters of the 1812 materials; research notes, and pamphlets.

Biographical Note

Marguerite M. Fortier worked at the Louisiana State Museum. Her interest in genealogy caused her to do research that connects the Fortier family with the Brou, Haydel, and Labranche families.
