Scope and Contents of the Materials

Collection includes mortgage documents, slavery documents, a bill of lading, shipping documents, promissory notes, donation notes, property documents, a death notice, a land office refund, a shopping list, a post card, and poems in French. There are many legal documents for property transactions and purchases of slaves by Pierre Sidney Sanchez and by the widow of Pierre Godefroy Bouny.

Biographical Note

The Pierre Sidney Sanchez and the widow of Pierre Godefroy Bouny made many property transactions and purchases of slaves in the New Orleans area during the mid nineteenth century. The donor of the Bouny-Sanchez family papers is the granddaughter of Pierre Sidney Sanchez. The donor's parents were Louise Sanchez (daughter of Pierre Sidney Sanchez) and Albert Moreno.
