Scope and Contents of the Materials

The collection consists of correspondence, pamphlets, articles, photographs, invitations, speeches, and die-cast stamps. Frank Leo Loria (b. 1898-) was a surgeon at the Tulane University School of Medicine. He was very interested in Italian-American affairs, writing articles for La Voce Coloniale, many of which can be found in the collection. Loria also founded the Virgilian Society in 1921 to create better relations between Italians and New Orleanians. Information about the Society, as well as its by-laws, is in the collection. There is also material about the assassination of Huey P. Long and his alleged assassin, Carl Austin Weiss.

Biographical Note

Frank Leo Loria (b. 1898-) was a surgeon at the Tulane University School of Medicine. He was very interested in Italian-American affairs, writing articles for La Voce Coloniale and founding the Virgilian Society in 1921 to create better relations between Italians and New Orleanians.
