Scope and Contents of the Materials

The collection consists of journals of trips for bird observations taken for the Audubon societies by Henry Hazlitt Kopman in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Florida. There is also a scrapbook of newspaper clippings of articles that Kopman published in the Times-Democrat.

Biographical Note

Henry Hazlitt Kopman was a noted ornithologist and author of Wild Acres: A Book of the Gulf Coast Country, New York (1946). He wrote articles for the Times-Democrat, New Orleans. He died in Mississippi City, Mississippi in 1959, leaving a widow, Laura, and a son, Henry Marshall Kopman.
