Scope and Contents of the Materials

The collection consists of materials that reflect Andre Brown Moore's many different roles in public and private life. There is correspondence and photographs from Moore's time as a Judge Advocate on General Patton's staff. Also included are biographical materials and the papers of other family members. Moore was a member of the Boston Club and active in Mardi Gras, which is represented by correspondence, clippings, and administrative records. Speeches, correspondence, clippings and campaign materials illustrate Moore's political career. Moore's participated in business dealings with Tidelands Life Insurance Company, Robert Oil Company, and Pan Air Corporation, which is evidenced by financial records, annual reports, and correspondence. He also held offices at Trinity Church in New Orleans, serving on committees and representing the church at conventions. There are also numerous proclamations and awards given to Moore.

Biographical Note

Andre Brown Moore (1911-1987) was a lawyer born in New Orleans who attended Newman School and Tulane University. He practiced law as a partner in the firm of McCloskey, Moore, and Dennery (1934-1950). He spent five years of active duty with two years overseas as a Judge Advocate on General Patton's staff. He was awarded four bronze stars and the Bronze Star Medal. He left the military as a Lieutenant Colonel. Moore served as Commissioner of Public Utilities of New Orleans for four years and then as Councilman until resigning in 1957 to enter private business. He was a partner in Robert Oil Company, an oil exploration and production company as well as president of Pan Air Corporation, an aviation sales and service company. He also became Chief Executive Officer of the Tidelands Life Insurance Company. Moore also served as Senior Warden at Trinity Church, the largest Episcopal Church in New Orleans.
