- Oversize folder 1: St. Tammany Club, St. Tammany Telegraph and Telephone, and the Bell Telephone Case, 1884-1887

- This section of newspaper clippings consists of articles chiefly from the St. Tammany Farmer (Covington, Louisiana) with a few articles from the Canton (Mississippi) Tri-Weekly Citizen, the (New Orleans) Daily Picayune, the (New Orleans) Times Democrat, the New Orleans Chronicle, the (New Orleans) Daily City Item, and the Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania) Dispatch. Topics include the charter of the St. Tammany Telephone and Telegraph Company, the establishment of the telephone line in St. Tammany, and the first messages using the telephone. A few articles deal with St. Tammany Parish exhibits along with a description of the attractiveness of Mandeville and its leisure activities. The majority of the articles concern the suit by the United States against the American Bell Telephone Company, questioning the validity of Bell patent. Intertwined with this case was an investigation to determine whether the suit was brought through the collusive action of the Pan Electric projectors (competitors) and the Department of Justice. Included are reports on the testimonies of such involved parties as Attorney General A.H. Garland, General Joseph E. Johnston, Colonel Casey Young, Senator Isham G. Harris, and Van Bethuysen.
