Scope and Contents of the Materials

Leonard V. Huber (1903-1984) was a businessman, historian, civil leader, and writer. He was president of Victor Huber and Sons, Incorporated, owner and builder of Hope Mausoleum as well as Louisiana's first crematory. He was active in many local historical societies and authored several books and articles on subjects including steamboats, cemeteries, postal history, Mardi Gras, and New Orleans landmarks. The collection consists of Huber's correspondence, lectures, articles, research, photographs, postcards, publications and drafts that relate to his various research interests. There is a collection of lithographs that fall under the categories of stock certificates, bonds, invitations, bills, invitations, other financial records. Glass negatives of cemeteries as well as photographs and drawings of steamboats and wharfs are also present.

Leonard V. Huber (1903-1984) was a businessman, historian, civil leader, and writer. He was president of Victor Huber and Sons, Incorporated, owner and builder of Hope Mausoleum as well as Louisiana's first crematory. He was active in many local historical organizations and authored several books and articles on subjects including steamboats, cemeteries, postal history, Mardi Gras, and New Orleans landmarks. He was president of the Louisiana Landmarks Society, Orleans Parish Landmarks Commission, Keyes Foundation, in addition to being a founding member and president of Friends of Tulane Library. He is the author of Immortality; The Rise and Fall of Girod Street Cemetery (1960); New Orleans: A Pictorial History (1971); Louisiana: A Pictorial History (1975); Mardi Gras: A Pictorial History (1975); Creole Cottages (1980); Jackson Square Through the Years (1982); Clasped Hands: Symbolism in New Orleans Cemeteries (1982); and Landmarks of New Orleans (1984).
