Scope and Contents of the Materials

The collection consists of Charles L. Harrod's journal that contains copies of letters as well as an account of Christ Church in New Orleans when it was taken over by General Benjamin Butler's military authority in October 1862.

Biographical Note

Charles L. Harrod was the father of Benjamin Morgan Harrod (1837-1912), an American civil engineer who, from 1895 to 1902, directed the construction of the water and sewerage systems in New Orleans. He was married to Mary Morgan and an Episcopalian.
