Historical Note: The New Orleans Cotton Exchange was established in New Orleans in 1871 as a centralized location for the trading of cotton and remained open until 1964. It was created during a period when one-third of the nation's cotton production came through New Orleans. The Cotton Exchange helped to standardize cotton pricing and and establish standards for grading cotton.
