Name: Latta, Samuel Rankin.

Historical Note: Samuel Rankin Latta of Dyersburg, Tennessee, fought in the Confederate Army 13th  Tennessee Infantry Regiment during the Civil War. He wrote to his wife, Mary, and other members of his family about his participation in the war. His journals describe his social, religious and college activities, teaching experiences and travels, and gave his opinions on events of the time.
