Historical Note: Margarete Bieber (d. 1876) was a Classicist, archaeologist, art historian, and academic. She was the head of archaeology department, Hessische Ludwigs-Universität Giessen and later Associate Professor of Fine Arts and Archaeology, Columbia University. As a writer, she also used the pseudonym Ingeborg Bergen. Bieber is the author of numerous works, including Ullstein Lexicon, Laocoon, The Sculpture of the Hellenistic Age, History of the Greek and Roman Theater, Alexander the Great in Greek and Roman Art, and other papers, Ancient Copies Contributions to a History of Roman Sculpture, and Continuation of Ancient Copies Contributions to a History of Roman Sculpture.
