Historical Note: John Minor Wisdom (1905-1999) was a liberal Republican from Louisiana and a judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit during the 1950s and 1960s when that court became known for a series of decisions crucial in advancing the civil rights of African-Americans. He attended Tulane Law School and was later an Adjunct professor of law there from 1938 to 1957.
