Historical Note: William Benjamin Smith (1850-1934) was a professor of mathematics at Tulane University from 1893 to 1905 and a professor of philosophy from 1906 to 1915. He retired from teaching in 1915. He is the author of many books, including Ecce Deus, studies of primitive Christianity, The Iliad of Homer, Elementary Co-ordinate Geometry for Collegiate Use and Private Study, and Introductory Modern Geometry of Point, Ray, and Circle.
