Louisiana Purchase Exposition Commission. | Tulane University Special Collections

Name: Louisiana Purchase Exposition Commission.

Historical Note: The Louisiana Board of Commissioners for the Louisiana Purchase Exposition in St. Louis Missouri in 1904 was headed by William C. Stubbs, executive commissioner. His assistant was Robert Glenk. The material in the exhibit eventually formed the nucleus of the Louisiana State Museum, which was established in 1907. The Exposition itself celebrated the centennial of the Louisiana Purchase (1803), one year late. It was delayed from a planned opening in 1903 to 1904, to allow for full-scale participation by more states and foreign countries.
