De Grilleau, Michel. | Tulane University Special Collections

Name: De Grilleau, Michel.

Historical Note: Michel de Gilleau and Albin Michel owned the same three pieces of New Orleans property at different times. Two lots were in the 2nd municipality, bound by Magazine, Bank Place, Gravier, and Natchez. One lot was in the first district, bound by Lafayette, Poydras, Common and Tchoupitoulas. Michel de Grilleau's name was on the verso of the tax bills as early as 1874, but a city comptroller's list shows him paying city taxes beginning in 1889. Albin Michel paid taxes on the land from 1847 until de Grilleau took over.
