Scope and Contents: This collection consists of the personal and professional papers of Gladys Freeman Cahn (1901-1964), a social welfare and civil rights activist who served as national president of the National Council of Jewish Women from 1949-1955 and was affiliated with the Louisiana Civil Liberties Union, UNESCO, the national Urban League, the Louisiana Conference of Social Welfare, the Civilian Defense Volunteer Office, and other community welfare organizations. Included are transcripts of speeches, correspondence, biographical information, reports, notes, photographs, certificates, newspaper clippings, and other items relating to Cahn's life and work.
