Scope and Contents: The collection consists of correspondence and scrapbooks of Charles E. Hunter, a former Rough Rider and prominent Republican politician in the Territory of and later state, Oklahoma. The correspondence deals with Hunter's political and personal affairs, especially his chairmanship of the Oklahoma Republican Central Committee and his clerkship of the Oklahoma Federal District Court. It also includes Rough Rider Association activities, especially the creation of a New York chapter and the subsequent reunion held there. There are also scrapbooks that contain clippings, chiefly from Oklahoma newspapers, concerned with Hunter's political and public affairs.
