Scope and Contents: The collection consists of correspondence and other papers of Harry S. Michel of New Orleans. Michel helped found the Daily City Item in 1877, and there is correspondence (1880-1881) between stockholders of the company dealing with newspaper matters. The collection also contains copies of the Anti-Taxer (1933), a newspaper dedicated to criticizing the politics of Huey P. Long; the American Progress (1940), which concerns the Louisiana gubernatorial race of 1940; as well as the Federationist (1945), a union newspaper that is covering the liquidation of the Hibernia Bank.
