Scope and Contents: This collection consists of biographical and genealogical material, essays, speeches, photographs, clippings, manuscripts, articles, research material, notes, correspondence, maps, and audiotapes relating to the life and work of Evans J. Casso. Casso, born in Donaldsonville, Louisiana, was an Italian-American author, lecturer, and Napoleonic and Civil War scholar. The collection includes research as well as manuscripts for the book, Lorenzo: The History of the Casso Family in Louisiana, in addition to manuscript material of The French Revolution: Napoleon Bonaparte and Pius VII; Staying in Step: A Continuing Italian Renaissance; Francis T. Nicholls, a Biographical Tribute; pamphlets; copies of The Italian-American Digest; and a Canizaro family unpublished manuscript. There is also a large amount of Canizaro family research that includes interviews, a genealogy, notes, correspondence, maps, clippings, and photographs.
