Scope and Contents: This collection consists of correspondence, documents, and petitions concerning the confirmation of nobility of the family of Charles Aloysius Luzenberg, a New Orleans physician. There are family papers in German as well as translations, excerpts from records of the Court Commission for Imperial and Royal Archives concerning the 1833 petition of Charles Luzenberg for an authorized copy of the patent of nobility of Joseph Gottfried Luzenberger, as well as the velvet-bound confirmation of nobility. Charles Luzenberg's wife, Mary, wrote to her mother in New Orleans and described her travels in Europe while doing research on the Luzenberg ancestry. Also included in the collection are the 1825 will of Dr. Georg Bessier, the 1848 codicil to the will of Charles Luzenberg, a list of succession of Holy Roman Emperors upon which is indicated the dates of issuance of Luzenberg nobility patents, and a typed excerpt from Ludwig's Life of Napoleon mentioning Bessiere, marshal of France and cousin of Charles Luzenberg.
