Scope and Contents: The collection consists primarily of genealogical papers of the Gaudet family and related families. There are legal papers, financial records, correspondence, a slave sale, genealogies, an indenture, plantation records, and clippings. In addition, there are records and correspondence of La Compagnie des Canonniers de Donaldsonville (1837-1848). The plantation records include two pocket notebooks: "Credit aux negres" and a financial journal. One member of the family, James Amedée Gaudet, was the bookkeeper of the Miles sugar plantation in Louisiana. There is also a typescript in French entitled "Half breed families of Acadia."
