Scope and Contents of the Materials

The collection consists of the photographs collected by Jane Walsh, a high school physical education teacher at Esplanade Girls' High School and John McDonogh High School in New Orleans. Included are family photographs, black and white photographs of large groups of uniformed high school girls doing synchronized exercise routines in class, a 1959 commencement program from John McDonogh Senior High School in New Orleans, postcards with correspondence, photographs of houses, farm animals, and pets.

Biographical Note

Jane P. Walsh lived at 2735 O'Reilly St., New Orleans, Louisiana 20119. She had family ties in Iowa and Ireland (nineteenth century family photographs were created in Cork, Ireland; early twentieth century family photographs were created in New Orleans, and Boone, Iowa). She was a high school physical education teacher at Esplanade Girls High School and John McDonogh High School.
