Scope and Contents of the Materials

John Klorer was a chief engineer with the New Orleans Levee Board (1930-1934), chief engineer with the State of Louisiana (1935-1936) and consulting and planning engineer with the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans.

The collection contains papers related to Klorer's career, including his appointment as supervising engineer for New Orleans, records related to the New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board, and directives from the Defense Plant Corporation in Washington. Of special interest are letters to Klorer from John H. Overton and Allen J. Ellender, Senators from Louisiana, which mention the administration of Louisiana Governor Sam Jones.

Biographical Note

John Klorer, born November 25, 1874, in New Orleans, graduated with the Tulane University Class of 1895 in civil engineering. He worked as an engineer in Louisiana in various capacities beginning in 1895. He was a chief engineer with the Levee Board in New Orleans (1930-1934), chief engineer with the State of Louisiana (1935-1936), and consulting and planning engineer with the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans. He was married and had two children.
