Scope and Contents of the Materials

This collection consists primarily of personal and business correspondence of Abel Dreyfous (1815-1892) originally of Belfort, France; and his son Felix Dreyfous (1857-1946) of New Orleans, La. Letters originate from various places including New Orleans, New York and Paris. Included also are an international stamp collection of Felix Dreyfous, post cards, a French newspaper clipping, a 1980 genealogical chart by Carolyn Weiss, and other family papers. Some of the letters are addressed to an unidentified correspondent who may be Felix Dreyfous.

Biographical Note

The Dreyfous family of this collection descends from Emanuel Dreyfous of Belfort, France. Abel Dreyfous and Felix J. Dreyfous had a notarial office located at 21 Exchange Place, New Orleans. Felix J. Dreyfous, an attorney, served as a representative to the Louisiana State Legislature from 1888 to 1892. More information about the Dreyfous family is available online: http://ourfamilybios.com/
