Scope and Contents of the Materials

The collection consists of personal correspondence, financial and legal correspondence, and genealogies relating to Carol Eiseman and the various branches of her family. There is Dreyfous family correspondence (1882-1960s), including that of Felix Julius Dreyfous and A.D. Dreyfous. Carol Eiseman and her brother, F. John Dreyfous, settled the estate of their father, Felix Julius Dreyfous, and the correspondence documenting this process is included in the collection. Eiseman did extensive genealogical research on the following related families: Abrahams, Alcus, Burkenroad, Dreyfous, Hart, Marks, Rouef, Scherck, and Schwabacher. Genealogical information in the collection includes pedigree charts, correspondence, military records, photographs, clippings, death certificates, marriage certificates, and a scrapbook.

Biographical Note

Carol Dreyfous Eiseman is the daughter of Felix Julius Dreyfous and Vera Scherck. She has one brother, F. John Dreyfous. Vera Scherck Dreyfous was the only daughter of Lewis A. Scherck and Nan Burkenroad. The Scherck and Dreyfous families are Jewish families based in New Orleans. Other families that are related to these two families include: Abrahams, Alcus, Burkenroad, Hart, Marks, Rouef, and Schwabacher.
