Scope and Contents of the Materials

This collection consists of materials that reflect the active career of Curtis Clifford Walther (d. 1977), including correspondence, certificates, military records, photographs, newspaper clippings, financial records, bulletins and pamphlets. Walther served as president of the New Orleans Chamber of Commerce, International House, Foreign Relations Association, Better Business Bureau, and Armed Forces Communication Association, among many others. There is a significant amount of Rotary Club material in the collection, of which Walther was president of the New Orleans chapter and district governor. He was also a charter member of the International Trade Mart and the Mississippi Valley World Trade Council as well as a founding member of International House. Walther was United States honorary consul general of Sri Lanka (Ceylon). In addition, he was president of Walther Paint Company, Incorporated at the time of his death in 1977. The collection contains genealogical material about the Walther family, including a photocopy of the work by Emma Gene Seale Gentry, Walther Family Recollections.

Biographical Note

Curtis Clifford Walther (d. 1977) served as president of the New Orleans Chamber of Commerce, International House, Foreign Relations Association, Better Business Bureau, and Armed Forces Communication Association, among many others. Walther was president of the New Orleans chapter of the Rotary Club and district governor of Rotary International. He was also a charter member of the International Trade Mart and the Mississippi Valley World Trade Council as well as a founding member of International House. Walther was United States honorary consul general of Sri Lanka (Ceylon) and traveled often. In addition, he was president and general manager of C.T. Patterson Company, Incorporated and president of Walther Brothers Company, Incorporated. He was president of Walther Paint Company, Incorporated at the time of his death in 1977. He was married to Mayme Boudreaux Walther and had one daughter, Mrs. Robert D. Covey, Sr.
