Arrangement:
Boxes 1-10 are arranged chronologically and include copies of marriage and baptismal certificates, and the correspondence of several generations of the St. Martin and Perret families. The correspondence for the period 1834-1839 is composed chiefly of letters from members of the Charles Perret and Drausin Perret families. The letters for the period 1846-1893 are of Louis St. Martin, his wife Louise Perret, and his children. There are also numerous letters to Louis St. Martin from friends and associates regarding his business affairs and his political career. The material for the period 1894-1947 is composed chiefly of the personal and business correspondence of three of the Louis St. Martin children. Between 1926 and 1949 most of the material pertains to the business activities of Armand E. St. Martin and Joseph Preston St. Martin.
Boxes 11-18 contain miscellaneous materials, including theatre programs, Mardi Gras mementos, and genealogical notes (Box 11); journals kept by various members of the family (Box 13); school notebooks (Box 14); printed political materials, 1852-1891 (Box 15); marriage announcements and death notices (Box 16); and photographs (Box 17).
In an oversized folder are several Louisiana newspapers of the 1880s.

1732-1805. Baptismal certificates, marriage contracts, and death certificates of St. Martin, D'Arensbourg, Perret, Pujol, and Labatut families. Most of the documents are copies taken from church records and certified by the priest.
1834-1839. Correspondence of members of the Charles Perret family: Madame Louise D'Arensbourg Perret, Charles Perret, Rosemonds Perret, and Madame Drausin Perret.
1839. Correspondence of Madame Louise D'Arensbourg Perret and Felix Perret at Spring Hill College, Mobile, Alabama, to his mother, Madame Drausin Perret. Also a report on Rosemont Perret, Sping Hill College.
1840-1845. There are no papers for these dates.
1846-1849. Letters from Louis St. Martin to his wife. Letters from J. S. Armant to Louis St. Martin. A Register of Choctaw Indian Certificates for land (1848-1849).
1851-1852. Letters from Louis St. Martin, Washington, Bernard Philips and A. Lustig.
1852-1853. Letters from Louis S. Martin, Sidonie Delahoussaye, and Mrs. Louis St. Martin (Louisa Perret).
1854-1858. Two legal documents: 1) Mr. and Mrs. Louis St. Martin, Jules Lavergne, and Louis Léon Bernard, transfer of mortgage to Furcy Verret, and 2) Sale of Slave by Céline and Virginie Deslix to Louis St. Martin. (both 1854). Letters from Louisa St. Martin to her mother, Louise Perret St. Martin, to her husband Louis St. Martin, and to her children.
1859-1869. Letters from Mrs. Louise Perret St. Martin to various members of her family. An invitation to a French play at Jesuits' College (1859 March 5). Twenty-nine handwritten weekly school reports of Albert, Corinne, and Stephanie St. Martin (1860).
