Biographical Note

The Sizer family in the United States originates with Helen Josephine Sizer's great-great grandfather Antonio DeZocieur (1707-1753), a French Huguenot from the island of Terrera (Azores), who called himself Anthony Sizer, and came to the American colonies in 1726. Sizer's great-grandfather, Sam Sizer (1746-1823) fought in the American Revolution. The grandfather of Helen Sizer was Asa B. Sizer (1780-1829), an Army officer in the New York Militia during the War of 1812, and her father was William S. Sizer (1827-1892), a Major in the Ohio Militia.
