Scope and Contents of the Materials

The collection consists of correspondence (1904-1962), programs for concerts, theatre productions, Mardi Gras ball invitations and krewe publications, pamphlets, travel brochures, and newspaper clippings relating to the social events in the lives of Dorothy and Maud Wilmot. There is also some correspondence, mostly from Frances Parkinson Keyes, and a signed book by M.E.M. Davis, photographs of the Steamboat Robert A. Wilmot, and a cartoon history of D.H. Holmes by John Chase. The newspapers (1897-1934) contain information about the Sinn Fein Rebellion in Ireland, the San Francisco earthquake, and World War I. There is also Panama trip material with the calling cards of Dr. William Gorgas.

Biographical Note

The Wilmots were a socially prominent family in New Orleans. W.G. Wilmot was a coal and towing contractor. His son, R.W. Wilmot, was first vice president of D.H. Holmes Company. Dorothy Wilmot was queen of Rex in 1913.
