Scope and Contents of the Materials

The collection consists of correspondence, bills, receipts, genealogical notes, prayer cards, envelopes, and photograph, all of which relate to the Hincks family and other closely-connected families. There is the personal and business correspondence of John W. Hincks, his wife Lise Lambert, and their children, Leda Hincks and Joseph Anatole Hincks, who corresponded while he was serving in the Confederate Army. Also included is a group of papers related to David Olivier and his daughter, Eliza Miskell Olivier, who is also the mother of John and David Hincks. After the death of Joseph Hincks, Eliza Miskell Olivier married Noel Destrehan and Anatole Peychaud. Correspondence and papers pertaining to the Peychaud-Olivier succession suit are included in the collection.

Biographical Note

John W. Hincks was married to Lise Lambert and they had two children, Leda Hincks, who married Charles Edward Schmidt, and Joseph Anatole Hincks, who served in the Confederate Army. Eliza Miskell Olivier, daughter of David Olivier, married Joseph A. Hincks, Noel, Destrehan, and Anatole Peychaud. She had two sons, John and David Hincks, by her marriage to Joseph Hincks. The daughter of Leda Hincks and Charles Edward Schmidt, Louise Schmidt, married Hugh de la Vergne and later Henry J. Landry de Frenuese.
