Scope and Contents of the Materials

The collection consists of correspondence, personal papers, certificates, Tulane memorabilia, clippings, certificates, photographs, and scientific programs belonging to Jeannette Laguaite (1912-2005), professor of speech pathology and audiology at the Tulane School of Medicine. In addition, there are Laguaite's writings and her curriculum vitae, religious material, a certificate of appreciation from the City of New Orleans, as well as a scrapbook of her parents' fiftieth wedding anniversary and her mother's volunteer work at Touro Hospital. She was active in many professional and service organizations, including the New Orleans Society of Clinical Hypnosis and the New Orleans Museum of Art.

Biographical Note

Jeannette Laguaite (1912-2005) was a professor of speech pathology and audiology at the Tulane School of Medicine. She received her bachelor's degree and master's degree from Tulane University and her PhD from Louisiana State University in 1952. She was a member of the New Orleans Society of Clinical Hypnosis, the American Speech and Hearing Association and many other national and international societies. Laguaite also contributed significantly to the body of scientific literature in her field. She was a volunteer at the New Orleans Museum of Art and for VIGOR (Volunteers in Government of Responsibility). She won many awards, including the Tulane Alumni Award in 1957 as well as City of New Orleans certificates of appreciation and merit in 1988 and 1990.
