Historical Note: The Cancer Crusaders organization was originally formed in 1976 by Lynda Buring Mahana, and is dedicated to raising money and awareness about cancer research, specifically to benefit the New Orleans community. This independent all-volunteer body was officially incorporated in 1978. Fund-raising events included balls and jazz brunches, which were attended by such notable guests as Lindy Boggs, Harry Connick, Jr., and New Orleans mayors.
