Historical Note: Author and history professor Ralph Lee Woodward was born in New London, Conn., Dec. 2, 1934. He received the A.B. degree from Central College, followed by the M.A. and Ph.D. from Tulane University. He taught at University of Wichita, University of Southwestern Louisiana, University of North Carolina, and Tulane University. He wrote extensively about Central American history.
