Historical Note: André Brousseau owned a business firm in New Orleans that handled carpets, linoleum, matting and other goods. Most of the documents in this collection have to do with transactions with businesses in New York; other letters originated in Baton Rouge, Shreveport, Grand Gulf, Natchez, Boston or Philadelphia, among other locations. The Internal Revenue license was granted to "A. Brousseau & Co., of the City of New Orleans, in the Parish of Orleans, and State of Louisiana, to carry on the business or occupation of Wholesale Dealer, at No. 17 Chartres Street."
