Historical Note: A prominent member of the Byrne family, John Lawrence Byrne (1835-1903), moved to the United States from Ireland. His grandfather, George Hillas, was a member of the Irish Parliament. John Lawrence Byrne lived in New Orleans and was part of the Confederate Army Reserve and later a comissioner of the Audubon Park Association beginning in 1891. His granddaughter, Celeste Byrne, was a New York fashion designer who retired to New Orleans and worked on writing a book covering three hundred years of family history to his death in 1903.
