Historical Note: Dorothy Spencer Collins (born Dorothy Selden Spencer) grew up in New Orleans, La., travelled the world, and lived in Maryland as an adult. She married Stephen Roberts Collins in 1945; their son Atwood Collins was born in 1947. Her interests were wide-ranging, and she fostered friendships throughout her life. In New Orleans as a youth, she was at one time Queen of Comus. In Maryland she was involved in the Washington social scene, the Episcopal Church, and the Maryland Society of the Colonial Dames of America.
