Historical Note:

Founded in July 1929, the Woman's Auxiliary to the Orleans Parish Medical Society has, as its objectives "to extend through its members the aims of the medical profession, to the various organizations which look to the advancement of health, education, and philanthropy; to assist in the District, State and National meetings, and promote acquaintance among doctors' families." Increasing emphasis has been placed on philanthropic projects in the educational field, and community service.

Since its founding in 1929, this organization has been variously known as Woman's Auxiliary, Women's Auxiliary, Orleans Parish Medical Society Auxiliary, WAOPMS, and Orleans Medical Society Alliance. In 2012, the web site for the Orleans Parish Medical Society: http://www.opms.org/
