Historical Note: Evans J. Casso (1914-1997) born in Donaldsonville, Louisiana, was an Italian-American author, lecturer, and Napoleonic and Civil War scholar as well as a featured writer for Italian-American Digest. He authored several books, including Lorenzo, the History of the Casso Family in Louisiana; Francis T. Nicholls, a Biographical Tribute; Salvatore: Dawn in America; The Life of Napoleon Bonaparte: a History of the Louisiana National Guard; Staying in Step: a Continuing Italian Renaissance. He was a charter member of the Civil War Round Table Club and served as its seventh president. The Greater New Orleans Italian Cultural Society names him The Italian-American in 1986. He served as president of the Friends of Tulane University Library from 1983 to 1984.
