Historical Note: The Schreier and Edisen families have roots in New Orleans and Morgan City, Louisiana, with interests in real estate, banking, oil, medicine, politics, and philanthropy. Yetta Feld (1875-1959) was born in Austria and came to the United States as a child. Samuel Schreier (c. 1870-1943) was born in Hungary and came to New York at seventeen. They married and had two children, Philip Charles Schreier (b. 1897), a professor of professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Tennessee, Memphis, and Paul Schreier (1898-1961), who was active in real estate, insurance, oil, and banking in the Morgan City area. Paul Schreier married Leah Norman and had a daughter, Barbara (1926-2000). Paul Schreier served as chair of the Morgan City Housing Authority and served as the first president of the Morgan City Recreation Commission. Barbara Schreier married Arnold J. Levy and had two children before marrying Dr. Clayton B. Edisen, a Tulane University professor of psychiatry and neurology. She oversaw the family's investment, real estate, civic, and philanthropic interests through the Schreier-Edisen Development Corporation.
