Kaplan, Murrel H. | Tulane University Special Collections

Name: Kaplan, Murrel H.

Historical Note: Murrel H. Kaplan (1911-1986) received his bachelor's degree from Washington and Lee University and his medical degree from the University of Louisville in 1934. In 1947 he became a fellow in the National Gastroenterological Association. His wife, Louise May Goldman (1917-1988), graduated from Newman School and Newcomb College in 1937. Kaplan was serving in the Army Medical Corps at the 64th General Hospital in Italy and Goldman was living in New Orleans during World War II. They wrote to each other daily, providing a picture of everyday life in New Orleans and Europe during the war years. Censorship prevented them from mentioning specific military movements, but everyday social and work activities are detailed.
